  • I have never done Yoga before. Can I come for the class?

You are most welcome to come to the class. Yoga can be practiced by everyone, regardless of age or flexibility.  We have small class sizes to be able to pay attention to every individual in the class.  We always have many variations in the class to accommodate everyone, as we are all unique in mind and body.  We will never force you into any pose or position and can give you suggestions before or after the class to help with your practice.

  • I have the flexibility of a lamppost. Do you think I can do yoga?

Yoga is so much more than contorting your body into pretzel like shapes. Yoga has physical, mental, emotional and spiritual components and is all about how you do what you do, and how you live on a moment to moment basis.  Each person’s flexibility level is different. We work with each individual and allow them to release tightness in the physical body in their own time.  There is no need to rush into anything.

  • I have an injury and/or a health condition. Can I practice yoga?

Yoga is very therapeutic and can help alleviate symptoms of pain and discomfort, when it is practiced with mindfulness and self awareness.  Very often, a doctor may recommend a gentle yoga practice to help with neck or back pain and to begin healing injuries. We offer a back and neck yoga therapy class to help with back and neck pain.  If you have a specific health condition, check with your doctor before you begin a yoga practice and also let your instructor know before the class.

  • What do I need to bring to the class?

You are welcome to bring a mat and a water bottle to class, if you like. We provide mats if you don’t have one. We also have props like blocks, blankets and straps to help you ease your way gently into poses. Remember, yoga is to be done in steadiness and ease, so you will never be asked to get into a pose that you are not comfortable in (with or without props).

  • Can I leave the class early?

Yes, you may leave early, but please do so quietly, so you don’t disturb the others. If you know that you have to leave early, please try to rest flat on the mat for at least 5-7 minutes before you leave.  This is to allow the mind and body time to relax, before you get back into activity.

  • Can I practice yoga with my shoes on? Do I need to remove my socks too?

Typically, yoga is practiced bare feet for a couple of reasons. The footwear is removed and kept away from the practice area as a mark of respect for the sanctity of the space. Also from an energetic perspective, when we practice yoga without footwear, we are in contact with the Earth which is energizing and a form of Prana or Life force Energy.

In the case of socks, if you need to keep them on due to cold weather or other issues, you may do so, but keep on mind that they may feel slippery on the mat.
